Banner Health Welcomes a New Finance Leader
Banner Health has made a significant move by announcing the appointment of Shelby Arveson as the new senior vice president of finance, effective January 26, 2026. This strategic addition aims to enhance Banner Health's financial framework and drive the organization towards its mission of making healthcare more accessible for millions. With over 25 years of experience in healthcare finance, Arveson is poised to direct strategic financial initiatives and oversee the planning and analysis needed to support Banner’s expansive network.
A Wealth of Experience in Healthcare Finance
Before joining Banner Health, Arveson served as the chief financial officer for the South Division at Providence, where she managed the financial performance of a hefty $9.3 billion integrated delivery system across California. Her previous roles include chief accounting officer and a key figure in mergers and acquisitions. The depth of her experience—rooted in robust healthcare financial management—ensures that she brings invaluable insight to Banner’s already impressive finance team.
Impact on Community and Organizational Goals
“We are thrilled to welcome Shelby to Banner and our finance team,” stated Staci Dickerson, executive vice president and chief financial officer at Banner Health. “Her extensive experience in strategic finance and proven leadership in large, complex healthcare systems will be invaluable as we continue to advance our mission of making healthcare easier, so life can be better.” As Banner serves over 3.5 million individuals annually across multiple states, effective financial strategies are crucial for their continued commitment to excellence in healthcare.
A Leader in Community Benefit
As one of the largest nonprofit healthcare systems, Banner Health demonstrated its commitment to community wellness by providing $1 billion in community benefits in 2024. With 32 hospitals and more than 450 care sites, the organization continues to thrive through innovative partnerships, most notably with the University of Arizona, heavily investing in medical education and groundbreaking clinical research.
Looking Ahead at Banner Health
Arveson’s leadership is expected to strengthen Banner Health’s financial positioning and enhance its ability to meet healthcare challenges head-on. As the system continues to evolve, her guidance will be pivotal for achieving financial sustainability and greater community impact.
