Celebrating Small Businesses During National Small Business Week
The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) is honoring remarkable small businesses in Arizona to coincide with National Small Business Week from May 3-9. This week is dedicated to acknowledging the essential role that small businesses play in the economy and community welfare. As Corey Wunderlich, Arizona SBA District Director, notes, "National Small Business Week is a time to recognize the power of small business. We celebrate the dedication, leadership, and innovation of small business owners and advocates who drive growth and create prosperity in our communities."
Spotlight on Award-Winning Arizona Businesses
This year, nine Arizona small businesses and lending partners are being recognized for their contributions. Notably, Alma Ornelas, the owner of The Best Taquito in Yuma, AZ will receive the prestigious Arizona Small Business Person of the Year award at the national ceremony on May 3rd in Washington, D.C. The award ceremony will also feature local winners recognized at the AZBizCon on May 4, 2026, hosted by the Arizona Small Business Association (ASBA).
Local Events Enhancing Small Business Growth
The SBA is organizing various events and workshops to empower small business owners during this week. These sessions aim to connect entrepreneurs with significant resources as they navigate the challenges of growing their businesses. Entrepreneurs interested in attending can register for all events through the SBA's website, offering opportunities for networking and essential training.
Recognizing Diverse Achievements
The Arizona award recipients showcase the diversity and innovation present in the state's business landscape. For instance, True Course Simulations', led by Raynald Bédard and Brett Watts, has been labeled the Arizona Small Business Exporter of the Year. Additionally, the Arizona Woman Business of the Year award goes to the dynamic duo Dania Vizcarra and Patricia L. Lara of Tacos Marlyn.
Empowering Community Through Entrepreneurship
Celebrations like National Small Business Week underscore the importance of community engagement in fostering an entrepreneurial spirit. As small businesses thrive, they not only contribute to local economies but also weave richer, more vibrant communities. Recognition events serve not just to honor achievements but also to inspire others within the community to pursue their entrepreneurial dreams.
