Prepare for Freeway Changes This Weekend in Phoenix
This weekend, from October 24-27, the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has announced several closures and lane restrictions on key highways in the Phoenix area. Travelers planning to hit the roads should be aware of the adjustments to their routes, particularly along I-17 in north Phoenix and I-10 in the West Valley.
Key Closures and Detours
On southbound I-17, traffic will be closed between Jomax and Deer Valley roads from 9 p.m. Friday until 10 a.m. Saturday (October 25) for pavement sealing. Commuters should utilize southbound 19th Avenue and westbound Deer Valley Road as detour routes.
For those heading north, northbound I-17 will face closures between Loop 101 and Jomax Road from 9 p.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Sunday (October 26). Drivers should note that ramps from Loop 101 to northbound I-17 will also be closed during this time.
Along eastbound I-10, expect closures between Avondale Boulevard and 75th Avenue, affecting traffic from 9 p.m. Friday to 10 a.m. Saturday. Detours include routes through eastbound Van Buren Street or McDowell Road, as the southbound Loop 101 ramp to I-10 will also be closed.
Later in the weekend, westbound I-10 will undergo closures from 75th Avenue to Avondale Boulevard from 9 p.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Sunday. Traffic disruptions may occur with additional lane restrictions along the southbound Loop 101.
Preparing for the Weekend Commute
ADOT urges travelers to plan ahead and allow extra travel time as these restrictions are likely to cause delays. The department is committed to improving traffic flow and road safety as part of the ongoing regional transportation plan in Maricopa County.
Make sure to check ADOT’s AZ511 for real-time traffic updates and further details before heading out this weekend. Being informed will help ensure a smoother travel experience, even with the anticipated disruptions. Remember, safety comes first!
