Engaging Learning Opportunities for Seniors in Phoenix
As we age, the pursuit of knowledge and social connection often plays a crucial role in enhancing our quality of life. The Jewish Family & Children’s Service (JFCS) is stepping up to provide enriching educational experiences for seniors in Phoenix through its Creative Aging classes. Starting in May at the Beth El Congregation, these classes offer diverse opportunities tailored to engage the mind and body.
Insightful Sessions Await
One of the featured classes is the Wisdom & Words Book Club, led by ASU Professor Duane Roen. This ongoing book discussion series invites participants to explore ideas and literature together on May 12, June 9, and July 14 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for a nominal fee of $15. It’s more than just a book club; it’s a chance for local seniors to find camaraderie while diving into engaging discussions.
For those inclined toward arts and creativity, the course titled Color, Texture & Story: Acrylics and Mixed Media Collage spans several dates in May and June. With a comprehensive fee of $135—covering all necessary supplies—this class encourages participants to express their creative flair through guided projects.
Physical Wellness and Mindfulness
The offerings extend into health and wellness with Beginner’s Tai Chi, conducted by instructor Ping Wei. This six-week journey into the practice of Tai Chi provides a fantastic way to improve balance and flexibility, which is essential for seniors. Classes are scheduled for June 11 through July 16, available at $90.
Connecting Through Creativity and Movement
These engaging learning opportunities represent an essential resource for our senior community, focusing on cognitive and physical well-being. Classes not only stimulate the mind but also foster friendships and community bonds, essential elements for maintaining a fulfilling life in later years.
